Another monthly update. I hope you are well. I'm beginning to enjoy this practice more and more now actually. It's not only a chance to sit down and update you (on very little), but it's also a chance to reflect on the previous month and take a second to look at and savour the memories that have come out of it. It's a lovely practice.
I think I can say I have finally come down from another amazing weekend at the Supernatural Ampitheatre. Golden Plains was a warm and wonderful weekend. The musicality of all of the performing bands and DJ's was very strong, even stronger than Meredith last December. Some of the highlights included Sun Ra Arkestra, Reptant, Skeleten, Hermanos Gutierrez, Fontaines DC and Adriana. I was so proud watching local Naarm deejay Zjoso dominate the big stage. It was an amazing blend of genre and kickstarted a stellar closing evening. The standout act however was the closing set performed by CCL. It was a masterclass of transition and vibe, chopping between different intensities of techno and progressive rhythms. The sunrise was a special moment, as she performed Idris Muhummad's 'Could Heaven Ever Be Like This?'. It was truely magical!
With the past weekend over though, there now stand very little in the way between now and my 10 week trip through Europe. A majority of our trip is all booked which is super exciting. Can't wait to experience London, Copenhagen and Ibiza for the first time, as well as return to Berlin and Tisno in Croatia. There's a lot of party to be had and I think I'm more than happy to save my energy for these cities. You will likely not see me out in Melbourne in the next few months
There is a trickle of DJ gigs being organised before I head away which will be nice. Some are added to the music tab but hopefully more will included also. I am also still hopeful to record some more Tepid Rhythm shows independantly this year. I'm negotiating with some equipment to make the show possible so stay tuned for something like this in the next few months too.
In the past week, an idea that has sat in the back of my brain for couple of years has began to grow into a new written article. Sentences are beginning to be structured about the piece so I will update the page here on some new writing material soon. One clue I can share with you about the piece for now is that its is NOT another festival review, and it will likely just be published here on lukecvr.com. I've been wanting to get the ball rolling on some more written work and I hope this is the start of a new set of pieces to come.
If you missed the previous month's update, I shared a new archived mix recorded from Hope St Radio early last year. The recording can be viewed in the music tab. I have also provided a review detailing the events of the last Tepid Rhythm event at Angel Music Bar last November. Details and some blurry photos can be found in the previous link if you want to read about the evening. I was my dream to perhaps host another party in the first half of this year however it's a smarter decision I think to wait until I return from Europe. I'm excited to see what new ideas will manifest in my travels.
On the subject of travel, I am wondering whether or not it's a good idea to dedicate a large segment of my blog page to photos from Europe while I am away. It might not be a large selection of images but enough to capture some of the experiences. I dunno what do you think? Are you interested in seeing my Euro pics on this page? Let me know
